At some time in the past, some of us have experienced a storm while at sea, at the lake, or even while driving. For many of us, especially those who travel quite often, the closest experience that we may have is turbulence on a plane. Talking about accident forgiveness, one of the lines in the most recent TV commercial of Liberty Mutual Insurance, is “Insurance Companies: News Flash. Nobody’s perfect.” We all know that this is not news. It is a reality which is as old as humanity.
A few years ago, I saw a bumper sticker on a car which said: “I am not perfect, just forgiven.” (more…)

While I was away, Holy Name of Mary was in the Catholic Virginian again with Colleen’s article, “It All Began with a Word.” After consistently reading the sacred scriptures for several days, she got the inspiration to start the Holy Spirit Prayer Ministry. One of those who recently attended the Prayer Ministry said, “I came feeling sick and depressed. I left feeling joyful!” (more…)

From September 1940 until May 1941, Hitler’s Luftwaffe carried out an intense bombing campaign of London. His intent was to demoralize the British people and and encourage them to surrender quickly. The damage inflicted on the city was great and causalities were high. The destruction in the East End of London was especially bad. In spite of this and against the advice of many of his advisors, King George VI and his wife Elizabeth decided to stay in London instead of evacuating to the countryside. (more…)

On one fall afternoon, we were driving along going somewhere and we got lost. We are all here tonight to celebrate a birthday, a birthday that is not only being celebrated by the relatives and friends of birthday celebrant, but by millions of people throughout the world. It’s even celebrated by people who have no idea what we are really celebrating. This is the birthday of God’s greatest gift to us: His only Son – Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – the light of the world. we call this birthday “Christmas.” (more…)
