Memorial for the Deceased of Holy Name of Mary Parish

August 23, 2023 |by HNMWebmaster | 0 Comments

A memorial brick purchased by the members of our Divine Mercy Cenacle was recently installed at the Mission of Divine Mercy in Texas ( https://missionofdivinemercy.org/ ) in remembrance of the deceased members of the parish. This is just one of many ways that our Cenacle group supports the needs of the sick, the dying, and deceased members of our parish.

The Mission of Divine Mercy is a Roman Catholic monastic community in the Texas Hill Country, located in New Braunfels, TX.  They established a consecrated space next to their cemetery for the placement of these memorial bricks. They are there to remind and encourage all visitors to the Mission of our sacred obligation to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

The Divine Mercy Cenacle at Holy Name of Mary meets bi-weekly for prayer and the discussion of Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the writings of St. Maria Faustina. Contact Bobbi Hayth for more information. Meetings resume in September on Wed at 10am.

Middle School Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser || Sunday, November 6, 2022 🥞

November 9, 2022 |by HNMWebmaster | 0 Comments

Today was the day our Middle Schoolers had been preparing for over the last few weeks… their Middle School Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser!! 😃

Our teens served HNM parishioners and families a breakfast of warm, fluffy pancakes, 🥞 sausages, eggs, coffee, juice and more after the 8:00 AM Mass. This was an excellent opportunity for our teens to learn some valuable life skills, serve their community and raise funds for a good cause.

Today was truly special, and we hope everyone enjoyed this breakfast as much as our teens enjoyed preparing it for you. We would like to thank the middle school youth, their parents and Catechists who volunteered their time in decorating the social hall, cooking in the kitchen, serving and cleaning up after the breakfast. Their time, love and effort made this day a truly special one!

We would also like to thank all of YOU – our parishioners, friends and families who purchased tickets. Your generous contributions will support our Youth Events in the Parish as well as any local community and Diocese events we participate in through the year.

This is the first in a series of Pancake breakfast scheduled this year to raise funds towards youth activities. We hope you will look forward to and join us for more pancake breakfasts later in the year!

November 1, 2022 |by HNMWebmaster | 0 Comments

In honor of all the saints and all Holy men & women of the Church who have gone before us, we held our All Saints Day Celebration this Sunday October 30, 2022 during Faith Formation.

Students dressed as their favorite saints and we had a wonderful time learning about great saints in our Catholic tradition, through formal instruction, crafts, snacks and other activities including a ‘Guess the Saint’ Pageant put on by our teens! The event ended with our ‘student-saints’ processing into the 11:00 AM Mass, emphasizing saints as our role models to be followed on our spiritual journey.

A Big Thank you to our High School Teens and their Catechists Ms. Lisa Mason and Ms. Danielle McGann for organizing this All Saints Day Celebration. Thank you also to all the Faith Formation Students who participated and their parents who came out to support them. We hope many of you will join us again next year!!!

Special Presentation & Recitation of the Rosary (Outdoors) – Sunday, October 9, 2022

October 14, 2022 |by HNMWebmaster | 0 Comments

October is the Month of Our Lady and The Rosary – both powerful weapons of faith, genuine conversion and the battle against evil. Reciting the Rosary daily has been encouraged by the Church and is known to bring peace to individuals, families and the world at large.

In celebration of the Feast of The Holy Rosary – Friday, October 7, 2022 – we had a special presentation and recitation of the Rosary this beautiful Sunday morning, October 9, 2022 during our Faith Formation Class.

Grade 3 through High school attended this event with their Catechists and peers. We met in the Sanctuary for opening prayer, followed by a brief presentation on the what, why and how to say the Rosary. Rosary kits blessed by Fr. Nixon were handed out to use before classes were dismissed into 2 groups to spend some quiet, reflective time outdoors and recite the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary in front of both the Our Lady statues (Grottos) on our Church grounds.

Thank you to all who participated & volunteered, including parents who came out to support our Faith Formation program and their children/youth. Your presence is always welcome and we would love to have you at these events in the future as well!

A special thanks to Ms. Martha Beech and Mr. Andy Sowards for technical support, Mrs. Deb Cirre for providing beautiful piano music accompaniment and Mrs. Theresa Pollard for overall support to our Faith Formation Ministry. May Our Blessed Mother intercede and pour out her blessings on all of you in a special way.

Reciting the Rosary is a powerful devotion, that has been encouraged by Saints and Popes through the ages. The peace and graces it brings is real and we hope many of us will continue to pray this devotion with fevor and love.

There are still plenty of gleaning opportunities in Virginia throughout the Fall and we hope you will consider joining us to glean anytime you can. Please visit endhunger.org or call 1-800-333-4597 or get in touch with our Parish Office/ Faith Formation Coordinator for more information.

Screening of Episode 2 of THE CHOSEN at HNM | Save a Chair for Jesus!

July 26, 2022 |by HNMWebmaster | 0 Comments

Save a Chair for Jesus!

Last night’s episode of THE CHOSEN entitled “Shabbat”, showed people remembering and celebrating God’s incredible creative work. According to the Torah, Shabbat commemorates the day that God rested from creating the world; the word Shabbat literally means “he rested.” Exodus 34:21 states: “Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest.”

Shabbat is, therefore, considered a day of peace and holiness. Think about some ways you can celebrate God’s work in your life. Where are some areas in your life that God may encourage you to slow down and allow your soul to find rest? Would He encourage a less rigorous schedule, less internet/ social media time, or something else?

We will be screening Episode 3 (“Jesus Loves the Little Children”) next Monday, August 1, 2022 from 6-7 PM in McNally Hall, followed by reflection and discussion (staying for discussion is optional). We invite you all to ‘slow down’ from your regular routine and join us. Bring your family, a friend or anyone whose soul needs to ‘find rest’.

Bring a light snack to share if you would like. We hope many of you will join us!
